Potato Pals

The wonderful thing about making potato pals is that you'll probably already have all the items needed to create them!

You'll find this project such a hit with your kids because the fun doesn't end when the potato people are created!

Your children can go on to name their pals, make new members for their potato family and - by using their imaginations - create all sorts of adventures for them.

To make potato pals you will need...

1 large potato
straight pins
markers or crayons
construction paper
yarn
glue
scissors
plastic googly eyes (optional)

Directions...

Draw the 'body parts' for your potato on to colored construction paper. He will need eyes, ears, nose, mouth and arms. You can 'cheat' a little by using plastic googly eyes if you prefer! Carefully cut out all the parts.

Next, draw a pair of shoes (or even bare feet!) on to construction paper and cut those out, too.

Pin all the parts of the body into the right places (or the wrong places if you're in the mood for a giggle). Make sure the pins are thoroughly pushed in (please note that it's best if an adult does this part and that younger children should not be left unattended with their new pal once the body parts are attached).

Cut strips of yarn to make hair and glue or pin them into place. Finally, make your potato pal some clothes using the construction paper - we don't want him getting cold!

And that's it... your first potato family member is ready, but lonely! Don't forget to make more to keep him company!
