3 Tier Terra Cotta Planter
3 Tier Terra Cotta Planter
Any gardener knows how much you can spend on the fancy and unique planters at home and garden stores. With this planter you will save money, and create a one of a kind planter you will enjoy!
What you will need:
3 terra cotta pots in 3 sizes form large to small(for extra decorative planters, try using ceramic pots with designs or colored ceramic)
Potting soil
3 plants of your choice (or one plant that is large enough to be divided into three parts)
To Begin:
1) Start by placing some soil into the pot that will be used as the base of the planter. Fill the pot about 2/3 full of soil and press gently. For this planter a bowl shaped pot was chosen for the base.
2) Place the second pot on top of the soil. Make sure the this pot is about 1/3 inside the base pot. Section off your plant, or using one of your three plants, place it into the soil of the base pot and add additional soil until the roots and the bottom 1/3 of the second pot are secured into the soil.
3) Repeat steps 1 and 2 with the third, and smallest sized, pot. Place the second plant (or part of plant) into the second pot and ensure that the roots, and the last pot are secured firmly.
4) Last, plant the remaining plant into the top pot and press gently. You should now have a distinctive 3 tier planter to proudly display! You can add several different twists to this project. I have made 2 tier planters and 4 tier planters, but I find that the 3 tier works the best and that any more than 4 tiers is a little unsteady.
Tips for 3 tier planter plant care:
When watering your plants in the 3 tier planter start with the base pot. You will not need to water this pot as much due to the fact that the top two pots will drain into the bottom as you water them.
